Roseanna Bignell – Cytology Network Manager
Roseanna began her career in biomedical science in 1995 as a trainee biomedical scientist. She has worked in a number of cytology departments within the Eastern region, including Basildon, Colchester and West Suffolk hospitals, as well as for the regional QA service in an advisory role, inspecting local laboratories. She is currently a member of the IBMS Cytology Advisory Panel. At the Pathology Partnership, Roseanna manages the cervical cytology laboratories at Newmarket and Colchester. The screening service covers the whole of the Pathology Partnership’s catchment area and also Mid Essex. The departments handle approximately 140,000 samples a year, making it one of the five largest in the country.
Kate Campbell – Satellite manager for Hinchingbrooke and Papworth
Kate joined the NHS in 1981 and is a qualified biomedical scientist. She is responsible for the day-to-day strategic management of the satellite laboratories at Hinchingbrooke and Papworth hospitals. Kate has undertaken a variety of roles within the areas of transfusion science, haematology and immunology. During her time at NHS Blood and Transplant she specialised in the field of platelet immunology and through collaboration with colleagues from the University of Cambridge, she published in the fields of allo and autoimmune thrombocytopenia.
After joining Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2006 as the head biomedical scientist in immunology, Kate completed an MSc in management and leadership, focusing on the use of coaching to facilitate change within a healthcare setting. Her studies encouraged her to move firstly to lead workforce development and latterly to manage the service improvement programme for pathology at Papworth. In July 2015 Kate was appointed to the role of site manager for the Pathology Partnership’s services at Hinchingbrooke and Papworth.
Nazia Hussain – Satellite manager for East & North Hertfordshire
Nazia began her career in the NHS in 2000 as a trainee biomedical scientist. She worked in the haematology department at Cambridge University Hospitals before specialising in haemostasis. In this role she provided scientific advice on specialist haemostasis to trust users within the region, was involved in assay development, and co-ordinated MSC training and quality within haematology. In August 2014, Nazia joined the Pathology Partnership as Satellite Manager for the Hinchingbrooke and Papworth laboratories, and is now Satellite Manager for the pathology laboratories and services within East and North Hertfordshire.
John Livermore – Satellite manager for Colchester Hospital
John started work in the NHS in 1979 as a trainee medical laboratory scientist. Working initially in a small multidisciplinary laboratory in a psychiatric hospital, he moved on to develop skills in microbiology and haematology at North Middlesex and Whittington Hospitals. In 1995 John became laboratory manager at Chase Farm Hospital and then, following a Trust merger in 1999, he was responsible for overseeing the combined microbiology service or Chase Farm and Barnet Hospitals. John has since worked at James Paget Hospital and at Colchester General Hospital. John worked as a member of the clinical and operations team at Colchester General Hospital during the formation of the Pathology Partnership, and took up his current role in May 2014.
